Our next meeting will be held on Thursday July 9th when Diane Clements will talk on Alpines in the Wild and in Cultivation.

Discussing what is an alpine, where do they grow and why, in this talk alpine expert Diane Clement will walk us through alpine scenery at different altitudes, observing where and how the plants grow. By looking for clues we will see how we too can adapt our gardens in order to grow different types of alpines. A chance to ‘visit’ wonderful mountains and flowers!

It’s summer and time to go garden visiting – if the weather cools off a little. Rather than list all the gardens open this month I’ll just point you in the right directions to find out, as no matter where you are – at home or on holiday – there will be a garden to visit somewhere nearby this month.

But first if you don’t mind travelling a little –

July 1st Astrantia Open Day at Norwell Nurseries Notts NG23 6JX 6 – 8.30pm. This is part of the Norwell gardens NGS day.

Sun July 12th. Rare Plant Fair. Winterbourne House B’ham B15 2RT

July 18 -19th. Sweet Pea Show, Wem

Plant Hunters Fairs are at Newark, Chasewater, Cholmondeley Castle and Donnington Le Heath this month.

5th July 12 – 5pm Shropshire Historic Churches Trust Gardens   Much Wenlock Garden Trail

There are several Open Gardens weekends in our area in the next couple of weeks – Werrington on June 27th and Colwich on July 5th. Full details of these – and others elsewhere are on the Open Gardens website.

There are lots of gardens open now for the NGS.  For all gardens open this month – this is now peak garden-visit time so there are a great many gardens open within easy reach of us – look in your yellow book for Staffordshire, on the app or online. Don’t forget that we are handily placed to visit gardens in Shropshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire as well.

For National Trust and other gardens to visit have a look at our Links page to find the websites.
